Camping Tips for Powersports Vehicles
A powersports vehicle is a perfect companion for a camping trip because it can go where other vehicles can’t. It’s also less of a hassle and even cheaper to take your compact off-road vehicle rather than a gas-guzzling truck/car. If you haven’t tried it yet, you may want to! Keep in mind, however, that using your quad changes things a bit so you have to approach it a bit differently. We want to help you get the most out of your vehicle, which is why we’ve created this guide to going camping in your off-road vehicle.
Shelter
While some travelers might want to rent a cabin, it can be more enjoyable to stay outside and sleep in a tent. Tents can be big, however, even when they’re on the smaller side. You’ll want to stick with that smaller size (try to stick to a one-person tent if you can) to avoid unnecessary weight on your powersports vehicle.
You can also consider looking into backpacking equipment. These are designed to be more compact and lightweight. This can also be true for your sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and other big essentials.
Clothes
A lot of people tend to pack more clothes than they need for a trip. While clothes in general are important, you may not need as much as you think. Try to take advantage of laundry facilities in the towns you pass to cut down on how much you bring. You can also probably wear certain items more than once before washing them, so long as they’re still clean.
Eating
Try to limit the food you bring with you! Keep things that’ll fill you up and provide lots of nutrients, as well as being easy to store. Peanut butter, bag meals, trail mix, and dehydrated foods are all great options. These items can also be prepared without many cooking utensils, outside of silverware. If possible, you should try to minimize the food you carry, since you won’t have a lot of room for it anyway.
Miscellaneous Bag
From chargers to tools to a first-aid kit and more, there will probably be a lot of odds and ends you’ll need to find a home for. We recommend having one or two bags just for different odds and ends. This way everything is organized, and if you need to pull all your gear out, it’s already gathered in one spot. No digging through cargo boxes or saddlebags.
With more experience, you’ll probably be able to make a list more specific to your needs, but this is a good place to start!
